Welcome to Year 6
Cycle Ride to the Sea Front
Recently Year 6 went on a cycle ride from school to the end of the sea front. They were accompanied by Ms Fraser, Mary Kelland – Sustrans Bike-it Officer – Joe Morris – Road Safety Officer – and our two PCSTO’s Chris and Chloe. After a quick cycle and helmet check and a practise on the playground they all set off for an enjoyable cycle ride and returned to school just in time for a much needed lunch. After lunch the class then had a talk from Joe Morris and the PCSTO’s about Road Safety, riding to High School on their bikes and keeping their bikes and other possessions safe and secure.
Year 6 have an exciting term ahead of them, with much of their work being focused around their new creative topic of Flooding. As part of this topic the class went on a trip to the Eco Centre, where they had the opportunity to question two experts from the Sefton Flood team.
Wider Opportunities Music Scheme
Year 6 are extremely lucky to be involved this year with the ‘Wider Opportunities’ music scheme. This will involve the whole class learning how to drum during weekly lessons! The children will be taught by a percussion specialist each week, and once they are sufficiently competent the children will then perform for the whole school.
Tuesday afternoons will be our weekly swimming lessons. Our other P.E. day is Monday.
Literacy and Numeracy
As well as the above exciting activities, Year 6 will continue to work hard developing their Literacy and Numeracy skills in preparation for their transition to High School. They have a busy time over the coming weeks as important decisions and choices must be made about which schools they would like to attend next year – I encourage them to have a look at all the schools at their open evenings before making their minds up!
As ever please contact me via the school office or see me at the end of the day if you have any questions about any of the above and I will do my best to help.
