At Marshside Primary School we offer 2 pre-school groups. These groups are under our Early Years/Parent Team umbrella, forging even stronger links with parents and pre school children. Our Wednesday group will be run by Carol Kitchen and First Steps will be run by Pauline Gerrard.  Some of our Reception children will usually attend part of the sessions along with a member of our Reception Team staff. The groups will continue to be open to all pre-school children, parents, carers and grandparents. Each group costs £1.00 per family and includes refreshments.

Both of our groups have access to their own outdoor space which is designed to stimulate all the senses and allow children to extend their learning with both indoor and outdoor experiences.  Children can touch, smell and even taste some of the lovely plants such as lavender, mint and strawberries. Perspex screens are attached to the walls so that the children can develop their creativity with paints on a large scale or simply develop their mark making skills on the chalk board. Sand and water play are encouraged both in the sand tray and on the guttering system. The garden also has space for physical play on rockers, sit and ride toys and a small slide. Wind chimes and colourful windmills add to the stimulating environment.

Wednesday afternoon group. 1:30pm – 3pm

Our Wednesday afternoon group is called Marshside Minis and is a stay and play session.  It is held in the school hall, but the group will also have access to our Sensory Garden which will allow outdoor play for the children including sand, water, paints, chalks and sit and ride toys. This group is about the family and we plan for a calm and relaxing place for adults to come and meet each other whilst their children are playing. We offer regular activities for parents such as relaxation sessions, cake decorating and emergency first aid training which can be accessed whilst your child is playing in a safe environment.

Our Ethos and Mission Statement “Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.”

We aim to provide a safe, happy environment for parents, carers and children to meet.  Everyone who attends our group is made to feel valued and respected regardless of age, gender and culture.  We aim to provide good quality resources and activities for pre school children in order to promote their development whilst providing somewhere for adults to relax, access support and attend leisure workshops.

Friday morning group.  9:15am – 10:45am

Our Friday morning group is called Marshside Primary School First Steps. This group will be a little more structured and focussed on supporting your child’s development. Each week the focus will be around the theme of a children’s book which will be read during snack time.  Activities will then be delivered around that week’s story and may include painting, sticking, baking, music and movement. All activities will be planned to stimulate your child’s development in a fun and exciting environment.  First Steps is run by Pauline Gerrard.
